Inspired by the world of literature
Inspired by a single passage from Caleb Azumah Nelson’s novel 'Open Water', Legato evokes the heat of stolen moments on a London concourse, where hands explore, breaths quicken, and parting only amplifies the longing. Delectable and alluring, Legato blends the sensuality of vanilla with the intimate depth of musk, wrapping you in a seductive embrace that mirrors the city’s raw passion and untamed rhythm. Perfumer, Mathieu Nardin, describes the scent:
“At the heart, I placed a radiant Bourbon Vanilla Absolute, elegant, gourmand and utterly addictive. Around it, I layered Benzoin Pure Jungle Essence™ to amplify its warmth with caramel and spicy facets, giving depth and texture. I used an iconic ingredient of the perfumery twisted by technology to capture the perfect essence of nature. To echo the boozy richness of vanilla, I added Rum Pure Jungle Essence™, smoothed with the refined fruitiness of Plum Nat Neo Jungle Essence™. While, an animalic musk and Sublimolide bring a sensual, cozy warmth, wrapping the fragrance in a soft, seductive embrace. To highlight vanilla’s hidden floral soul, I chose Mugane™, a Mane captive, while Orcanox™ adds a mineral, modern amber signature. Sustainably sourced, crafted with cutting-edge technology — this is vanilla as I imagine it: bold, colourful, and full of character.” Scherzo is the first Miller Harris fragrance to derive inspiration from the world of literature. Launched in 2018, Scherzo is inspired by a passage of text in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 'Tender is the Night'. This short passage was the only thing given to perfumer Mathieu Nardin as the brief for the fragrance to be created. The resulting perfume has gone onto become an instant classic and bestseller in our house of fragrances at Miller Harris. The fragrance takes in cue from Fitzgerald's description of the heroine, young actress Rosemary Hoyt strolling against a symphony of bright flowers in glorious summer sunshine. Mathieu says that "when i read a book, I can smell what i am reading, the sense of what the writer is describing - the location, the French Riviera and the wonderful descriptions of sun, sea and heat influenced me to find my own colours and palette for the book in order to fill out the background for the fragrance. "Scherzo " is named after a musical term meaning a small extract taken from a larger work such as a symphony.
