Autumn with a hint of glamour...

Autumn with a hint of glamour...

As we approach the end of September, the nights get darker, knitwear begins to creep back into our wardrobes, floral blooms turn into crisp golden leaves and the transition from summer into autumn settles in.

For fragrances, a change of seasons marks the moment for a scent switchover. Where in summer we tend to reach for light citrus scents that provide refreshment amongst the dry heat of the sun, autumn demands a fragrance that will bring warmth, comfort and staying power to cooler days. However, whilst it may be your instinct to reach for the dark, heavy woody scents, we have some unexpected perfume suggestions to switch up your usual habits – and after the past year, something exciting sounds appealing.

As the world begins to open up again, this year's autumn favourites are our vintage-inspired fragrances that revel in old school glamour and the thrill of dressing up. And the scent that captures this perfectly? Powdered Veil.

Taking the wearer to times past, but with a twist of modernity, the delicate yet warm contrasts of Powdered Veil shine in this homage to elegant townhouses, gilded bedrooms and dressing tables of glamour and beauty of the 20's. A 21st century homage, amber is the definitive oriental accord which is given a nuanced and translucent air. The sparkling freshness of spicy pink pepper flirts with a twist of rosy geranium. A sensuous orchid accord provides a fragile and haunting floralcy to the heart, combined with transparent florals and the luminous freshness of hedione.

If you’re looking for an evening scent to stay with you on colder nights, try Violet Ida. A plush cloud retro glamour, Violet Ida takes inspiration from Graham Greene’s iconic novel Brighton Rock and it’s 1930’s heroine Ida Arnold. The fragrance opens with a sweet citrus and herbaceous note of bergamot and carrot seed, but the dark heroine is brought instantly to the fore with a deep exclusive presence of Orris butter from Tuscany. Vanilla and amber bring a modernity and smoothness to the rich, evocative scent, evoking a contrast of old and new with a luxurious feel.

Perfumer's Tip

If you yearn for that additional Autumnal warmth, try layering with Peau Santal. Offiering an addictive comfort, the rich warmth and carnal quality of sandalwood holds close to the skin. Pink pepper gives a gentle kick of fire to the enveloping warmth and cashmere woods, crisp amber and moss create a hint of dry sensuality.
